Bunion

What is a Bunion?
A Bunion is a progressive condition in which a joint in your big toe called the MTPJ becomes painful and a bony prominence forms on the inside of your foot. This can make it difficult to wear your favorite shoes or heels. Over time your joint can wear down and become stiff. In fewer cases, bunions can affect pediatric patients which make it difficult to play sports, wear stylish shoes or heels. Bunions are not reversible with conservative methods and can only be reversed surgically.

What to expect on my visit?

Dr. Leonardo Zayas-Bazan will evaluate your foot, take x-rays and discuss both conservative and surgical methods to treat your bunion. Conservative methods include, injections, bunion splinting, and shoe gear modification. If surgery is warranted, Dr. Zayas-Bazan will determine if you are a candidate for the innovative Minimally Invasive Bunionectomy. Although not all patients meet the criteria for bunion surgery or Minimally invasive surgery, rest assured we will do our best to accommodate all of your needs.
